Holidays to Greece
It's hard to oversell Greece's contribution to our world
it's the birthplace of democracy, the home of philosophy, it originated the Olympic games, contributed the great myths that capture our imagination; it is the very cradle of civilisation. A visit to modern Greece is a riot of colour, movement and passion. It's a journey into history, an exploration of culture, and a wander through the stuff of legends.
Greece is beaches and mountains, its islands and food. Greece, to cut a long story short is superb.
The quickest way to Greece is undoubtedly a cheapie to an island where you can lounge about for a week before returning tanned and tired. But you're selling yourself seriously short! Start exploring Greece in Athens. This is a world class city with more culture than you shake a stick at - tiny tavernas hidden away in back alleyways, delicious home-cooked meals in all manner of neighbourhood cafe to full-blown 5-star cuisine at the likes of Restaurant Spondi where history meets 21C gastronomic experimentation.
Naturally, you have to explore the ruins
The Parthenon and the Acropolis will leave you with a new respect for the building skills of the ancients. Take time also for the Temple of Olympian Zeus, started in the 600 BC but not completed for another 700 years. If time is of the essence, get your historic fill in the magnificent new Acropolis Museum.
Everywhere you go in Greece is an adventure
From Thessalonica in the north to Rhodes, Santorini and the islands of the Aegean. Revel in the food, take the time to see the local culture of dancing and festivities, explore the mountainous regions with their monasteries and tucked away villages, but above all, enjoy Greece - it has a passion and a pride in its culture like no other!
