Eating

Eating out in Protaras - cheap, expensive and everything in between

The food in Protaras is a wonderful blend of Greek and Cypriot flavours - smoky barbecued meats, fresh seafood and plenty of salad. Herbs and spicy olives accompany most dishes and the waiters are professional and easy-going.

The budget options - for good cheap eats in Protaras there are plenty of choices. Try Ifalos on Pernera Street for genuine, warm and friendly service and simple local food. It's rustic and comfortable; try the Seafood Platter. Nissotis is close to the beach so is ideally placed for the lunch crowd. Go for the Mezze.

Mid price options - Molti Cafe on Xenodohion St is a real find. It's more Italian-based cuisine with dishes like flambéed pork fillets in tarragon sauce. The house wines are excellent. Olympus is on the strip and does European very well - try the Duck a là Orange.

Splurge - the stand out restaurant in Protaras at this point in time is the Mojito Bar and Grill on Aphrodite St. It's not actually an expensive restaurant but the service, atmosphere and quality of the food are such that you can't go past it!

Things not to miss

Protaras - great beaches and ideal for active people

Protaras has been blessed with an excellent beach, tranquil waters and superb diving and snorkeling not far from the town itself. You can relax poolside, wander the beach, venture out into the deeper rocky headlands and enjoy the vibrant life on the Strip nightly.

Fig Tree Bay - what a gem of a beach! This blue-flag paradise has gentle, turquoise waters lapping the golden sands, teasing the holidaymakers under their sea of blue umbrellas. Swimming, water skiing, snorkeling and even diving further around the headland - it's all here. Get here early in peak season to beat the crowds. Most of the watersport options are very reasonably priced - you can even negotiate the boys down if it's a slow day, so try your luck.

Magic Dancing Waters Show - we all love a fun show while on holiday and this is a great one!  Tucked in behind the local MacDonald's it's an entertainment feast with coloured lasers, water guns and a spectacular volcano.

Water World Water Park - just up the road at Ayia Napa on Ayia Thekla Rd is a water park full of rides, slides and fun activities for the kids. If you've brought young children with you on holiday and they're a bit bored, this will liven up their day. Beware - some of the rides are very high and youngsters may be scared.
