The capital is Abu Dhabi, which is also the business and financial capital. This is a modern city with broad boulevards, tall office and apartment buildings, and market shops, as well as expensive western brand names. Holidays to Abu Dhabi are mostly about the shopping and sitting by a warm pool. The 'best public beach in the world' can't be all bad either! The Corniche has cabanas and banana lounges, juice bars by the score, play areas and walks, lush grass embankments and excellent sandy stretches. You can hire bikes, or just stroll the walkways and enjoy a beautiful area. There are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants and it's a great after-dinner walk in a perfectly safe environment.

Things to do

If you're after something a little different while on holiday in Abu Dhabi, head for the Caracal Shooting Club (your concierge will know it), where you can hire a handgun or a rifle and blast away to your heart's content. It's something you're unlikely to do at home, so give it a shot... as it were.

Why not enjoy a cruise of the islands that surround the city, maybe do some deep-sea fishing in the Arabian Gulf, escape to scuba diving in shipwrecks, or water skiing at Beach Rotana or even take a trip out into the desert and go sandboarding.

There are loads to do in Abu Dhabi; you can ride a quad bike across the desert, ride camels through the sand dunes and amazingly you can visit the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and drive a racing car at the Yas Marina Circuit. How about that?
